Who is Anne Carson?
She is a Canadian poet, essayist, translator and Classics scholar, born in Toronto in 1950. Her writing is distinctive because she often combines poetry, prose, classical Greek literature, mythology and contemporary themes.
Her major work is Autobiography of Red (1998). This novel is inspired by the ancient Greek story of Geryon, a red-winged monster killed by Herakles.
One of the most important features of Carson's work is her deep engagement with Ancient Greek literature.
Her other important works are Eros the Bittersweet, The Beauty of the Husband, Men in the Off Hours, Nox, Red Doc and Float.
Anne Carson crossed literary boundaries. Hence her writing is considered genre defying. Poetry could become an essay. An ancient Greek myth could become a contemporary love story.

Myth, History, Poetry ,Translation, Drama, Modern Culture.
This makes her work particularly relevant to discussions about literary innovation and cultural continuity.
Why is the Nobel Prize in Literature Important?
The Literature Nobel is different from the scientific Nobel Prizes. Physics and Chemistry generally recognize a particular scientific discovery or breakthrough. Literature can recognize a body of work, often called an oeuvre.
