Global Decline in the Rule of Law
The report highlights a continuing global decline in the rule of law for the ninth consecutive year.
Rule-of-law scores declined in 62% of countries covered by the index.
Freedoms of speech and assembly, along with civic participation, weakened in more than 60% of countries.
Around 86% of countries experienced a sustained decline over the past five years.
The report observes that authoritarianism is no longer merely an emerging trend but has become entrenched in many countries.
